Procured Health Appoints Michael Blaszyk as Board Member and Egon Doppenberg, MD, as Physician Advisor

Procured Health, a leader in providing health systems with solutions that improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency, announced two key appointments today. Michael Blaszyk will join the firm’s board of directors while Egon Doppenberg, MD, will serve on the company’s Physician Advisory Council.

Blaszyk brings decades of healthcare leadership experience to the Procured Health board. Before retiring in 2015, he served as senior executive vice president, CFO and chief corporate officer of San Francisco–based Dignity Health. During his 15 years in that role, he helped the organization grow from a $6 billion hospital company to a $17 billion integrated delivery system.

“I firmly believe in Procured Health’s mission of using clinical evidence to help health system leaders make decisions that are based on proven cost benefits rather than subjective experiences and personal preferences,” Blaszyk said. “I look forward to offering strategic guidance as the company continues to develop innovative solutions to eliminate unnecessary costs.”

Doppenberg also brings deep experience to Procured Health, where, as a member of the Physician Advisory Council, he will provide practical, field-based insights to support the firm’s evidence-based research. A board-certified neurosurgeon, Doppenberg currently serves as associate medical director of neurosurgery and medical director of spinal surgery at Illinois-based Advocate Medical Group. In 2014, he was named one of Becker’s Spine Review’s “Surgeon Leaders to Know.”

“I’ve witnessed first-hand the opportunities for reducing unnecessary clinical variation that the Procured Health team provides,” Doppenberg said. “They speak an evidence-based, data-driven language that physicians understand and they recognize the importance of cross-departmental collaboration to achieve sustainable savings. I’m excited to contribute to those conversations.”

The addition of Blaszyk and Doppenberg strengthens Procured Health’s goal of driving significant and lasting change in healthcare. “Having two such highly respected leaders join us is a testament to the work we’ve done and what we plan to accomplish in the future,” said Procured Health CEO Hani Elias. “The amount of wasteful spending and unnecessary variation within the healthcare industry is staggering. We’re eager to tap into Mr. Blaszyk’s and Dr. Doppenberg’s knowledge and passion as we push our clients to think differently about how to solve these problems.”
