Investment Thesis Report: Opioid Abuse
FCA Venture Partners is especially interested in solutions addressing the treatment of Opioid prescription drug abuse. The United States Government has declared opioid abuse a public health emergency. In this industry white paper, FCA Venture Partners details the effects of the opioid epidemic on the public, as well as the mechanisms that the public and private sector has used to decrease its impact. We are interested in meeting with any startup that has a solution addressing this problem.
Here is an excerpt from the report: “Opioid abuse in the United States is reported to be at an all-time high. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently estimated that the total “economic burden” of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of health care, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.1 In 2015, over 33,000 Americans died as a result of an opioid overdose. The exceptional costs in monetary value and life has garnered attention from both the public and private sector as leaders search for mechanisms to help decrease the impact of the epidemic.”
In an effort to show our thought leadership, we worked with Vanderbilt MBA student, Orin Brown, to put together this report.
